My 84 y.o father came to the ED on Wednesday morn...

My 84 y.o father came to the ED on Wednesday morning in urinary retention. The medical staff and nurses failed to communicate care between the patient and the hospital team in order to obtain care in a timely and compassionate manner regarding basic comfort. Pain control was not addressed, reassessed, or adequately managed as per JCAHO mandates or as a basic medical intervention would be presumed in a hospital. Nutrition was negligent within the 36 hour time frame and had to be addressed by a family member and not the nursing staff. There was a lack of communication within the health care team regarding medical intervention. In addition, although he was to be admitted, he was left in bloody urine soaked pants he had worn into the ED. A family member brought in clothes/depends for him. This is the second time within 18 months that a family member has been admitted through the ED with a similar scenario. In an environment where "Healthcare Hero's" are on the forefront, this institution does not warrant the recognition. I am a 1983 MCV graduate with a RN, BSN who has had OCN certification as well as AHA certification as a Director of Volunteer Services.
