I have always respected Coolray as one of the premier companies servicing heating and air. I have an agreement with Coolray for a twice a year annual agreement contract. This is my third year of renewal. Although, the technicians are always very professional and well experienced in diagnosing a problem; sometimes I think they truly show that they are the top of line and forget their responsibility in the area of customer service.
I recently had a tech who I have had before doing preventive maintenance on my a/c. I always have high anxiety when he shows up. This is because, he has a tendency to scare you the minute he sees a potential problem. If he sees that the a/c may not be cooling, he immediately tells you that you have serious problems. This is before he has completely diagnosed the problem inside and outside unit. He goes outside and the compressor was not running so he immediately said that your compressor is dead and this is a major problem and it is not worth servicing this unit. Once, he cleaned out the system outside, the compressor started up but there was a loss of Freon detected. So, he put in 1lb of Freon.
Now, I realize that my unit is 15 years old and has some issues. But, the tech needs to diagnose the problem completely before jumping to conclusions. I almost had a heart attack that I will have to replace my entire a/c. He was correct in that there was a Freon leak in the system.
I had someone else come and see my a/c and the tech said that the capacitor was bad and that is why the compressor was not running consistently. He replaced the capacitor and the compressor started running. The Coolray tech should have tried to replace the capacitor. His conclusion was that I have a compressor issue and a leak and therefore the a/c will not function for long.
I think, next year I might think of trying another company for maintenance contract.
