I cannot comment on the educational part of the seabird centre itself, as we have only ever been in for food and drinks in the cafe but it's a perfectly nice place with a nice outside area on the water if weather permits. The food is fine but it's pretty expensive for what it is, canteen food at restaurant prices, so if you're looking for a spot of lunch I would recommend going into town. If you're just stopping for a quick coffee though, and it's a nice day, it's a good place to sit and enjoy the views of the sea.
