I can't seem to conjure up anything more iconic than the Golden Gate Bridge every time I think of good ol' San Francisco. This amazingly built bridge, around three miles long, has been placed as a historic icon and one the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco. It has also been declared as one of the wonders of the modern world. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
The bridge is not only the most photographed bridge in the world, but also quite functional. With daily commuters, tourists, and locals alike, this bridge is sturdily made for bike riding, walking, jogging, and running, at all times of the day.
My friends once came to visit, leaving with regret not to see the whole bridge because of heavy fog during the week. I took her to the place where Alfred Hitchcock shoot Vertigo. It is just another perfect spot to take a picture with the bridge no matter the weather is good or not.
A bike ride across the bridge can be fun. Just be careful when approaching Sausalito, that period of bike lane (technically no bike lane) is very close to cars. Take a ferry back to the city, enjoy another view of the bay.
If you ever get a chance to ride a helicopter, which my uncle did one time when he was still a journalist, he got tons of amazing photos of the bridge.
