I recommend to order your tickets online so you won't be needed to wait in line to buy them.
The ferry departs from Battery Park.
For 18.50$ you'll get to see the famous statue from up close on Liberty Island and tour around it. Audio tour is also available and included in the price. When you think you're done with the statue just wait for the ferry, it'll take you to Ellis Island, you can choose to enter it and explore the Museum of Immigration or should you just stay on the boat and wait for it to fill up and continue back to NYC.
