Perhaps the highlight of any first visit to NYC. A trip that everyone should make. You won't be disappointed. It's not an expensive trip but do book as early as you can as you might be able to gain access to the pedestal, or even the crown if you wanted to. I was not able to get into the crown as the tickets are very limited. I think its not a huge space hence the low numbers.
Liberty Island is a lovely setting. The boat trip is around 15 mins and the statue looms up as you approach. Make sure you take the right hand side if the boat for the best view but you can't miss her.
The exhibitions are very informative and you get a real feeling of affection that the Americans have towards this landmark. It's a real beacon of hope and freedom.
Allow at least 2 hours to see everything, and take a picnic. You could spend the whole day there just taking in the monument and the view back over to Manhattan. Worth every cent.
