This place is awesome. Before going, read Longfellow's poem 'Tales of the Wayside Inn'. It is a charming collection of stories set in poetic form as they are told by various individuals as they sit around the fireside at the inn. This is where it 'all happened'!
The building itself is a beautiful place and the grounds are just as beautiful. It is very easy to spend many hours here exploring the various buildings on the property which include an old barn, a chapel built by Henry Ford, a little red school house which claims to be the setting of the nursery rhyme 'Mary's Little Lamb' and a wonderful stone grist mill. The road running in front of the inn is a portion of the original Boston Post Road which was the route that Paul Revere used on the night that the alarm went out about approaching British regulars to confiscate the munitions in Concord.
If you love history or if you love New England, this place is a must see. The food is very good too!
