Wow, lots of bad reviews on here, and after staying at La Torretta I can understand some of them. Stayed three nights during a conference over spring break and everything was decent and acceptable for the most part, but not really "great". The best part of the stay was that the rooms were actually quite nice; modern feeling with very nicely tiled bathrooms. The pool area was nice enough with the lazy river and free mini golf was a bonus. The food from the conference center restaurant was very good and the conference rooms and service was good for that aspect. Lots of families and people seemed to be having fun. Some things that weren't so good however: the fitness center was closed for water damage (although I complained and got the $25 "resort fee" knocked off my stay since I workout 5 days a week and was counting on the center being open for my stay. Had to go into the city to find a gym which was a hassle), the price for a room was EXPENSIVE I think ($233 per night for two people in double queen), the maid service was extremely late in the day, the hair dryer in our room was GROSS and covered with glue or something and it stunk up the entire room like wet dog when I used it (nasty). Overall, I don't think I would come here for a "getaway"; it really doesn't offer what I would consider to be the total resort package. I got the impression that the place is a bit mismanaged and a little seedy behind-the-scenes; things seemed a little more run-down than I would anticipate a really nice place to be overall. Don't believe me? Take the stairs instead of the elevator and tell me if you feel like you just entered a scene in a horror movie or not.....
