From 68$ to 465$ for 2 days for a smelly Camry at San Antonio airport!
This seems to be a common scam, amongst many others, that Advantage pulls off every once in a while, as I read multiple times now.
The "final costs" you are displayed when doing the online reservation are a small fraction of what you probably pay after returning the vehicle. If you don't agree with what they charge you additionally when you arrive there to pick it up (and it's too late to find another rental at this point for most), the costs for the reservation are already charged to you credit card.
Insurance, for example, is only mentioned when you are arriving there.
The worst part about all of this was the "upsale fee" I was charged.
I was asked if I would like a bigger car and replied that I wouldn't mind. I ordered a Yaris for 21$ and was offered a Camry without mentioning extra costs. I didn't ask for it since its common practice to offer a different, better car when the ordered one is not available. Happened to me twice already using reliable rentals without extra costs.
If you look at the website, a Camry costs just 4$ more per day than a Yaris. My fee was 100$ per day! So instead of 25$, I was charged 121$ for the same car. Who wouldn't call that a scam?
It's not just a black sheep employee either, always different names are mentioned here. I had the honor with scam master Julio RS. Diaz.
Off course the numerous fees that I didn't know about and taxes increased too, so the final amount for just two days was 465$. That's luxury class at a "more expensive" car rental.
The car also had a pretty heavy dog smell. I thought I get rid of it by lowering the windows while driving for a while, but it didn't really help. If I wasn't under time pressure, I would have asked for a different car.
It probably wont surprise you at this point, when I add that customer service didn't even reply.
Bottom line: The few happy customers here were just lucky, but scamming the others is definitely a part of Advantages business strategy.
You can never fully protect yourself from their endless repertoire of scams.
The "sincere" apologies in the comments by Advantage are obviously a joke, copied and pasted without any reaction.
Always do your research and companies like Advantage won't get away with practices like this!

Edit regarding the response by Advantage below: Thanks for offering to explain the charges AFTER they were transferred to your account. Serious businesses explain fees beforehand and don t just hide them in a small print contract without a word. You profit from honest companies that don t require attention to every little detail.
And how do you justify 121$ without taxes for a camry when its 24$ on your website?
You know exactly nobody would take that deal and you only get away with it like that. This is deliberate
