Keith Appanah Review of Guoman & Thistle hotels

A very central hotel located right next to Tower Bridge. My allocated room had a great view overlooking the bridge and the Thames. The hotel is conveniently within walking distance to a tube station and many London attractions and amenities.
Sadly, the location of this hotel is my only real positive thing to say. The room was very small and basic with a tiny television which I couldn't work. There were no plug sockets next to the bed (it's surprising how many hotels out there don't consider this basic amenity) and the room telephone was on the other side of the room. It meant having to physically get out of bed to answer the wake up call. Having to do this meant I was actually awake so perhaps this inconvenience is actually a positive!
Room also had thin walls and at 6am I was woken up to sounds of somebody in the room above slamming drawers and doors. The bathroom was also so tiny it felt crowded when I was in there and it was difficult to get the water temperature right.
The room heating was also uncomfortably hot and I couldn't cool down the room without opening the window. When I woke up, it felt like I was in a sauna!
Overall, very basic accommodation. Room was very small, even by London pricing standards. I've stayed in IHG hotels in London that are much more comfortable and similar price range. I therefore wouldn't choose to stay here again.
