This should really have been a 5 star review. The property and the location are fantastic. And the Fijian hotel staff is very kind and helpful.
So why the 3 stars? It's more like 3.5 stars actually. 1 star leaves on account of the food and another 1/2 star because of the water sport equipment.
The food was the worst we had on our Fiji trip. We tried all of the restaurant on property and they were all equally lacking. The problem largely boils down to them trying to serve western dishes instead of drawing on the strength of the Fijian or Indo-Fijian tradition. And that just isn't working for them. Unfortunately there are no alternatives nearby and you are mostly stuck with the resort food.
The resort has a nice little water sport shop where you can rent snorkeling equipment, kayaks and surfboard. Unfortunately things aren't well maintained. Natadola Beach has a beautiful fun wave breaking right in front of the infinity pool. Nothing big, but great for beginners or a quick surf for anyone. I'd be ok with the fact that they only have soft top boards, but these were old, beat up boards with loose fins, detached rails and broken leashes. There are good soft top boards out there these days...there is no excuse for the neglected junk they had in their shop.
Ok, that's the problems. But it's a great place, nicely laid out and well run overall. If great food and water activities are not your thing, by all means stay there. We still enjoyed our stay. Just be aware that these issues exist. They would be very easy to fix and that is what makes them so much more shameful. I hope they will address them.
