For my first visit to Martha's Vineyard, this place was the best introduction to the island! Located at the tip of Edgartown, right across the path from the Edgartown Lighthouse, this spectacular, homey hotel was a relaxing retreat from the city. Just a stones throw from the main street, you could get there within a few minutes, but then retire to the sanctuary that were rocking chairs on the front porch and sip a pink and green cocktail while watching the clouds roll across the sky. Folks, we were a few steps from heaven here. The rooms were actually better than I had expected - spacious, clean, balconies/patios and decorated inoffensively with a sailing/resort theme. The doors were old and rickety which I found totally charming and often surprised me when they did not resist my hand when opening it (silly detail, but I literally thought about it every time we entered/exited our room). HVH has a communal pool with a pool bar that was just getting ready to open while we were there. Henry's bar is a great place to meet other vacationers or just share a drink with your boo. There is also a cozy seating area in the lobby with a fireplace that offers board games and historic reading material. My most favorite place, however, was the wrap around porch with the multiple blue rocking chairs and comfortable seating overlooking the water. Though the prices can be steep during peak season, it is definitely worth staying here to really enjoy the total relaxation the vineyard has to offer.
