Review of Mayfield Toyota

Unfortunately we had a bad experience buying a used car from Mayfield. We purchased a Rav4 and got an extended warranty to give us peace of mind. At the first service we mentioned the engine was noisy for a brief period at startup ... and we got a quote of $7000 to repair the VVTI gears as well as some other things they found faulty. Surprise, surprise ... the repairs would not be covered under warranty because we had gone over the service interval. We were actually given a service report from the previous owner when we bought the car that showed engine noise had been a problem before, so we argued it had nothing to do with service intervals. The repairs were eventually made, apparently with Mayfield meeting some of the costs and the warranty company meeting some, but it wasn't without stress. A $7000 repair bill on the first service isn't what we expected with Toyota being supposedly so reliable. I'll give three stars because, in the end, the repairs were made at no cost and I'm usually pleased with their service team but it's a shame they gave us the run-around initially with this issue. Warning - never go over service intervals!
