I have not been a patient and I live 200 miles away. My daughter took my grandson in to ER for asthma, he left in CPS custody. I m not sure if the staff or the contracted hospital social worker called CPS but their report indicated the staff was concerned that my daughter had no insurance card so they feared she would not fill the prescription and he would end up back in the hospital. She was never asked if she had a way to pay and nobody contacted me, his legal guardian, to discuss his medical history before admitting him as an inpatient and running a litany of blood tests. I m not sure the blood tests were really necessary but seems maybe he was admitted to await cps and ran blood tests because they were looking for something that they could use to justify the call to cps. He s been hospitalized for asthma and I have always stayed with him and I don t recall that many blood tests ever being done as a patient for asthma. But I guess they bill for each thing and they are going to be more thorough than if he were in his regular hospital. Still, when cps told me they were detaining him and I said no, my daughter is taking him home, they made my daughter leave. Then the hospital staff kept him there to wait for cps to transport him and would not allow my daughter to take him with her when she left. I even stated I was going to come get him but was told he is I. Cps custody and they could not do anything about it. Cps did not have a signed court order to remove him from the hospital and they should not have refused to let my daughter take him nor should they have allowed CPS to take him without a court order.
