The worst thing about a visit to the island is the wait in line in Battery Park. When it's hot outside, the queue is brutal, as there is no cover from the sun or the heat. Bring lots of water as you wait in line. On one particular visit, I seriously contemplating giving up my $38 pair of tickets and scraping the adventure. The wait was too long, the weather too hot, and the crowd too aggressive and irritable. Fortunately we were able to tough it out and we made it. Finally, it is important to note that if you wish to get up to the crown, you need to make reservations months in advance. They only allow a limited amount of visitors in the crown per day so you must plan ahead.
