I had an awful experience after i was trying to replace my car that was totalled. The initial sales person Scott was nice and professional and deserves a raise, but that is where it ended. I told them that i was preshopping and that i was waiting for gap to finish paying off my old car.
The sales manager then tried to give me a 2012 tacoma that was 4k over kelly blue book, which was an insult to my intelligence. After that, they switched the sales floor manager and this time they offered me a 2016 at kelly blue book value.
Then the whole financing was a total trainwreck. I dont have great credit, but i have some credit. But no banks would finance me while i still owed on my other car. (Also never purchase toyota gap cause you will be in this endless loop for forever, it took them over 2 months to payoff my other car and i ended up having to pay even more because i had to pay added interest.)
They told me the day of the sale, that they had a bank that would finance me. So i decided to go ahead with the deal, but that wasnt the truth because i got a letter in the mail that said that they basically lied. So then i all of a sudden had to prove that gap is paying off my old car. The dealer finance guy called and texted me daily to provide proof of gap on my old car. Which i brought in my policy, i brought in the letter that said that they were waiting on capital one. Then i had to call daily to capital one and Toyota gap daily. So check the status. Then they started threatening to call the truck in as being stolen to the police.
So a month had passed of this nightmare of trying to get gap to pay off the old car, so the finance company would finance me. The 2 to 3 hours of customer care hell daily would be enough to drive anyone crazy.
I walked into my credit union and they said that they would finance me after i provided proof that I had a gap claim in process. Well then, i had my purchase order form but it had the wrong bank so i went down to the dealer to update the form so i could have my credit union finance me. So basically, when i was there and i thought that i was getting forms for my credit union. But infact, They had me signing a loan for a different bank. So, when I brought the new purchase order to my credit union, they said that they couldn't finance me because it said that i already have financing. So, i called the dealer and they said that it was my problem, even though the loan wasnt finalized. They refused to allow me to have my credit union finance me and give me a purchase order with their name on it.
I called Toyota customer care, they said that they would check into the matter and call me back, which never happened. So really i just recommend not buying toyota because they dont value you as a customer. I ended up refining 2 months later to my credit union after waiting for my registration card from the dmv.
