We had multiple items stolen from our vehicle at the MARK HOPKINS. HOTEL.
We checked in and let the valet have the car. When we got it the next morning it was fine. It was not broken into, no damage, smashed windows etc. We left thinking everything was good. When we reached our next hotel I was unloading the car and realized multiple pieces of our property were missing.
I immediately called and spoke to The Mark Hopkins' Chief of Hotel Security and his second in command. Both repeatedly assured me they could determine who did it because they had video surveillance of our car and the area where it was parked during the 15 hours they had it.
I was asked to fill out an insurance claim/report by Security and the Valet Service which I did. Once the insurance company for the parking Valet took over, all cooperation stopped and everyone at the Hotel "went to ground." Our claim to the valet parking company's insurance was summarily denied. The adjuster knew we were traveling and many hundreds of miles from home. The adjuster claimed they were not liable. That is not legally correct. It was "stonewalling" pure and simple.
We filed a police report and followed up with SFPD. I told them that the Hotel Security had video surveillance of the car and who they could contact at the Hotel to get it. They did nothing.
What a nightmare.
