I believe the roofers are the real scammers who actually end up causing damage to your roof when they go up there without you to inspect. Then they come down from the roof and act like your roof is severely wind damaged. A local roofer where I live got caught doing this and he was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison. Not sure about these third party companies, but the roofers (or just an old roof at the end of its life expectancy) are usually the problem based on what I have heard from contacts in the industry. These third party vendors get paid either way and don't make the claim determination. Your insurance company will review the photos from the vendor in addition to several other resources (NOAA, NWS, AWS) which can identify exact wind speeds in the area on the date of loss. Also they consult with the government resources (Pentagon) for pre loss information (Ariel photos dating years before the date of loss). Don't believe what roofers say, they are the scammers who are causing damages in a lot of cases.
