This place has a large representation of the amount of time the Earth has been in existence even before you get to the main tank. I have been taking my son here for years and he gets more out of each visit as he grows up and he's going to get even more in the future.

The main tank is huge! It is difficult to describe just how big it is. It comfortably accommodates two saw fish which are bigger than a human along with a lot of other sea creatures.

There's more to The Deep than just the big main tank as there are plenty of smaller tanks to display smaller species along with a colony of penguins. There's also a section covering the darker depths of the ocean.

Sir Patrick Stewart narrating is also a great hit.

One recommendation though: if you can, take the stairs at the end rather than the lift. You can take your time and the second window you get to is very close to where the saw fish take a rest.

You can easily spend 4 hours here so it's useful that there's a cafe half way through in addition to the main restaurant at the start/ end.

The cost of a ticket is best thought of as a ticket for a year. You will always find something else to see the next time you visit. A new section has recently opened that shows how such a place is maintained as it uses (and reuses- they're big on the environmental issues unsurprisingly) a lot of water.

So if you're interested in sea life or space or penguins or ancient prehistoric times or bugs or recycling/ marine conservation there's plenty for you here.
