The Now Larimar is definitely not a 5 star hotel. It's about a 3.5 at best.

If we start with the positive:
- The explorer's club for children is amazing.
- The entertainment is definitely one of the best I've ever seen.
- The coffee place is great, the lattes are very good.
- The Spice restaurant is better than local Asian restaurants back home, definitely try it!
- The pools and beach have a lot of chairs in the shade or the sun, as you wish. Service is also pretty good by the pool or the beach.

On the list of the negative things

- We didn't feel safe in the resort. We forgot our key inside the room on the first night and when I went to the lobby and asked for a key, I had the wrong room number. The clerk asked for my name and gave me the key to the room I asked for. Naturally it didn't open my room but it did open the door to the room I mistakenly asked for. I then asked my husband to try to get our key but with a fake name- They gave him the key. Usually the clerk will follow you to the room before giving you a double of the key and make sure of your identity...

- The rooms in the second block are old, dirty and smell like mold.

- The carnival buffet is dirty. The table cloths are stained with grease and the staff doesn't bother changing it.

- The pool has green algae and needs renovations. My husband got a cut from pieces of ceramic that were broken in the pool.

- The drinks they make are made with regional booze. It's not necessarily bad but if you know your drinks it will taste different.

- The staff seems to have trouble speaking English. They don't always understand you which causes misunderstanding and frustration. On weekends a lot of Dominicans come to spend some time at the hotel. They get a great service since they can speak proper Spanish and it's easier for the staff to understand them.

We wouldn't go back. There is absolutely nothing about this hotel that makes it worth it for us.
