Top tips for speedy security - after 6AM on weekdays they bring the sniffing dog out and everyone gets treated to precheck in the normal lines. There are more lines in the normal lanes, so you're better off even if you DO HAVE precheck to just use the normal lines. Also, they will sometimes back the line up all the way to the entrance to the L train. It is quite a walk but I timed it and it only adds 6-7 minutes to the line. Just don't freak out.
