Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport was named after the prominent nationalist leader of the same name and serves the Kolkata metropolitan. It is located in the Dum Dum area, approximately 17 kilometres from the city centre. It is the fifth busiest airport in India that sprawls across an area of 2460 acres. Kolkata airport is often regarded as the fastest growing airport in the country with an annual increase in passenger traffic by 27%. In the year 2014 and 2015, it has been awarded the title of the Best Improved Airport in the Asia-Pacific by the International Airport Council.
