Told to check in at 4pm as there was no early check-in and was told the hotel overbooked

My original plan was to stay from Friday to Sunday, however; canceled Friday s stay 4-days prior to arriving and arrived on Saturday. During this call I asked if there was an early check-in and I was told no, 4pm is the check-in time.

I got to the hotel at 1pm, but went straight to my daughter s cheer completion at the Schaumburg Convention Center instead of checking in. After her performance, we went to the check-in counter (~4:02pm) and was told that the hotel overbooked and they have no room for me. After asking how they determined who drew the short straw, I was told who ever checked-in first received their room. Hard explaining to your 8-year old daughter that she was not going to stay in the same hotel as her cheer team.

The upsetting part is that I followed the instructions I received from the Renaissance, and it meant nothing.

They did comp me a room at a hotel 5 miles away, and $30 bucks for stuff inside the hotel, but as I get older I realized that we pay for experiences, and needless to say, this was a very disappointing one.
