Went to Lakeside Village looking for a two bedroom...

Went to Lakeside Village looking for a two bedroom. Julie was great. She showed us the model and spent so much time with us. She was great with our kids and offered us drinks. She asked us what we wanted to keep rent around. We really liked the entire deal until she went back to look at what they would have available around the time we wanted to move. She came out and said she found something great, which she did. We loved it. What we did not love was the fact that it was almost $100 more than what we said our MAX was for rent. The leasing manager (who we did not get the name of and wouldn't come out of the office and talk to us himself) had told her to give it to us on "special" for one dollar below our max rent amount....for the first SIX months. So we would have a rent hike of almost $100 in six months. We were so bummed because we loved what we were seeing so far (tho we did not see an actual unit or even inside an actual resident building. We saw only the models which are built into their office center.) we asked if we could get back to them within 24 hours so we could have time to figure out if we could do that and see if we had peace about moving there. It was less than AN HOUR to close there. She went back to the office and asked "the man behind the curtain" and he said no. We had to decide in minutes or it was gone. We know better. We don't act when we don't have peace. But we had been searching so long and hard for a home. We have two babies. We want a good place for them to live. This is important to us. So we foolishly jumped on it and applied and gave them $100 dollars for the applications (something we really couldn't do at the time. But we were worried we would miss something great.) everything went so quickly. And our kids were starting to fuss and we were stressed and made a rash decision. The very next morning my husband emailed them and said we wouldn't be supplying the rest of the papers they needed from us to apply because of the used car salesmen tactics and how stressed we were over it. They called us back and said that they had run the background check already (that's soon!!) so they were keeping our money and maybe they could talk to the manager to get the "special" he created out of thin air to last longer (all of this is just up to him since he made it up to begin with.) we said no. If this is how they deal to get you in, we don't want to know what an issue is like with them when locked into a lease. Really upset with myself for getting taken. We are smarter than that. And I'm upset about loosing a hundred dollars out of my kids' mouths. Not letting this happen again. We have our thick skin and solid heads on now.
