Dawn Wilson Review of The Red Lion Restaurant

Red Lion does many things right, but their pastas are overcooked & undersalted. Our table was large, 9 people. I think our waitress did a pretty good job keeping everyone in drinks, bread, getting the food served mostly together. She was pleasant & spoke up.
The soups & zucchini fries were delicious. Entrees were a large fish sandwich, blackberry chicken sandwich, pork medallions, kids shrimp & grilled cheese with fries, apricot chicken - all good. The Teriyaki salmon was slightly overcooked & the sauce was flavorless. The Chicken Picatta & Chicken Parm both lost their breading like sleeves, although the sauces were good. Those last 3 came with pasta & none of us are the pasta.
Desserts were just ok. Triple chocolate mousse (pie), Oreo Explosion, Apple Fritters. The white chocolate portion of the chocolate was rather tasteless, a hint of vanilla. The chocolate cake layer of the Oreo Torte was very thin & rather dry, but it was loaded with Oreo filling frosting & whipped cream. The fritters took a while to come out. There was a large plate of piping hot deep fried sweet dough with chunks of apples. Although good, it could have greatly benefitted from a dipping sauce of some kind.
Overall, I think the supper entrees are overpriced. If you're looking for a hearty, good bowl of soup, a good sandwich or dinner salad, those are good choices reasonably priced.
