The key to successfully visiting Versailles is to purchase tickets in advance and buy a time slot. You will appreciate this advise. The lines to pass thru security can take up 3+ hours directly in the sun. Saturday is the best day to visit during high season as the fountains in the gardens are all working. In addition, there is a evening fireworks show. I'd recommend renting an electric cart to drive around the Palace. It is a sprawling estate and you will walk miles. I have no words on how beautiful the Palace is and how much I enjoyed myself.
