Mary Rios Review of Happy Hound Play & Daycare

We were recommended to Happy Hounds from a trusted friend who helps care for my 3 year old during his chemotherapy treatments. She takes her beloved pet there for training and day care. So once our new baby, a French mastiff our son named Sexy Rexy, had completed his needed vaccines I was going to reach out to them to find out more. Before I even had a chance to contact them, the owner Suzanne, reached out to us! She had heard my sons story from our mutual friend and offered to train his puppy for us at no cost to us. I couldn't even begin to express my gratitude for her generosity, as you can imagine the expenses of having a toddler undergoing chemotherapy for a tumor which also took his vision, can sneak up on you rather quickly.
Rexy was always a good puppy but of course was not house broken and he had tendency to chew. These were my two biggest concerns as my son had a plastic catheter surgically placed in his chest and Heaven save Rex if he ever chewed that thing. And don't even get me started on his leash "walking".
The day I dropped off Rex for their 10 day boarding and training camp I was 30 minutes late. I did call ahead and they graciously told me to keep on coming. I know how a tardy student can throw a major wrench in their day so I appreciated them being so understanding.
Upon arrival I had to push the double stroller and carry my dog in on his leash. (Hopefully that gives you a visual on how poorly he (actually we) used his leash) While we waited Rex hid behind my leg as he was understandably nervous due to all the dogs but I was excitedly taking in my surroundings. Their were dogs and parents coming and going and all were happy and well mannered. I was so impressed how clean the building was how happy every employee was to be there. This eased any concern I had leaving my pup for the first time. I spoke with trainers Emily and Tom to discuss his care. They were very informative and upfront about all the training tools and their plan for him. We even got a tour of where he would be kenneled. During his stay I received a few videos of his leash training and update emails to let me know how his overall mood was.
We returned 10 days later for graduation. I love that they take such personal time with the family because anyone who has a pet knows if the parents do not follow through on the training all the trainers hard work will go out the window. The instructions for after care were very clear and informative. Then we even went through a mock walk and training sessions with our puppy. I was so impressed!!! He could walk on his leash, use basic commands, and had such wonderful manners. Our toddler could even walk the pup with just a little help from mom.
It has been over a month since Rex has came home and I have to say I am so thankful for Happy Hounds. Our life gets incredibly hectic with 2 working parents, 4 children and the special needs of our son, having an ill behaved puppy would have been a nightmare. Thanks to Happy Hounds and to Suzanne, that is one burden we no longer have. Rex has only had one accident in the house but other than that has been the ideal companion pet for my son. I know that every pet is different and that a lot of the success has to do with the families following through, but I know I would have not been so well equipped without them. They have been so wonderful. I have even received emails from the trainers and Suzanne just to check in on him and to see how he is doing. Talk about customer service!!!!
I have since recommended Happy Hounds to several friends and I am very confident in how they will be cared for. The owners and the trainers working there do it from their hearts. They love these animals and want them to succeed. This business is a breath of fresh air as they truly love what they do and it shows. I strongly recommend Happy Hounds to anyone needing care for their dog or puppy, you will not be disappointed!
