I am extremely upset. I went in with my granddaughter this morning to assist her with the purchase of a used car. We did find one she liked. As we were working through the paperwork with the finance department person, Brett, he explained several options for extended warranties, all of which we turned down. Later, as we were going over final loan papers, I noticed he had included a $1000 charge for gap coverage , one of the previously explained extended warranty options. When I questioned it he became very rattled, immediately grabbed the paper and threw it away, mumbling that he had mistakenly put in $1000 as her down payment instead of $2000, which made no sense because the $1000 was added, not subtracted and her $2000 down payment was listed on the form correctly. I am thoroughly convinced (and very troubled) that he was deliberately trying to scam a 20 year old setting up her first car loan and was counting on the fact that neither she nor the old lady she brought along for support would catch on. This experience shakes my confidence in their whole establishment and leaves me wondering whether we have been misled concerning any other part of the transaction.
