James Agee Review of Sheraton Gunter Hotel

I should have known there would be problems when my assistant had problems making reservations. I know many use the Internet, but those of us in government have to do things the old-fashioned way. Making reservations for three, she had problems getting the staff to find the conference code we were attending at their hotel.
The rooms for all of us were musty. Several of the 130+ attendees had the same complaint. The room our group meals were served in were musty. This tells me there needs to be maintenance performed on the air handlers and vent systems. There is mold in there somewhere. Either that or the carpets need cleaned or changed.
The buffet meals had NO water served. Coffee or tea was it. I had to go back to the conference room to get a pitcher of water to bring back to our table. I don't understand. When I asked for water from someone on the staff, she looked at me like I was asking her for money. The food was, "meh."
The cleanliness was questionable. They missed a lot of little things. In our hallway, there was cap from a bottle of water in the floor next to the wall. It was there for three days before someone picked it up. We were on the 8th floor. Cleaning staff was on the floor every day as was a guy with a vacuum cleaner. None of them saw it? There was shiny gold colored sticker off of some type of candy on the floor by the elevators. The floor there is dark colored so this sticker stood out. It was there for four days and was there when I checked out on Friday Oct 18th.
In my room, I noticed dust along the baseboards that was ignored. It needed scrubbed. In addition, in the door to the shower and toilet areas, there was dirt and dust accumulated on the cut-outs of that door. It was on all of the designs, but it was obvious on what was at eye level for the cleaning staff. Eye level!
In the fitness center, the protective coating was worn off of the cable on the cable machine on one side. The other side was worn off a little and it was covered with black electrical tape. When an employee came around I pointed it out to her and the potential danger as I used to work in gyms in my youth. To her credit, she reported it to her bosses who came to look at it about 15 minutes later. I explained to them again that it's all one cable and wouldn't take long to replace. I don't think either one had ever set foot in the room before. It was obvious neither one worked out, so they were surprised at the condition of the cable.
They charged SEVERAL at our conference for parking and they didn't have a car. I did have a rental for three nights and they charged me correctly for two of the nights ($33 + tax). But they put an additional $160 +tax parking fee and couldn't explain what it was. The desk clerks had no idea what it was. It took them several minutes to get it off my bill. They didn't charge me for the 3rd parking night, which was nice. Later that evening I received an updated bill where they removed the parking entirely. Again, nice of them to do that. But, what about most people who never look at their bills because their employers are paying the bills?
All-in-all, I would avoid. If they are missing obvious dirt, they are ignoring major things we don't see. I think their management don't walk around the place. If they do, they are blind.
There are MANY hotels in this area. There has to be a better choice than this one!!
