We chose this place on a locals recommendation as we are from out of town and were looking for a mid-range dinner, something nice but not overly expensive.
The atmosphere is wonderful, by a very nice lake and almost every seat has a view. Clean, welcoming.
The service staff was polite, accomodating and prompt. There was an issue with my girlfriends ID, being out of state, they didn't allow her to order a drink, the only establishment on our entire stay in Baltimore (multiple restaurants, bars, and a music venue) despite her driver's license being valid and her being 24 years old. No clear reason as to why, just that they won't accept it. 5/10
I ordered the bloody Mary, which they claimed was made to order, it was bland despite ordering it 'spicy' and an overwhelming amount of cracked pepper making the last 30% of it undrinkable due to it all being in the bottom of the glass. The addition of some actual hot sauce, and some Worcestershire sauce would've sufficed. 2/10
For starters we ordered the beef carpaccio. Presentation was ok, however the beef was an unappetizing grey color, and hidden under way too much extras (arugula, capers, sauce, ect). The beef seemed more like a lunch meat in appearance. Despite this, the taste was actually quite fine, and the ceaser aioli was an interesting take on this dish. This is more of a salad than a traditional carpaccio. 7/10
We sat down at the tail end of the lunch service, so the dinner items weren't available just yet, however I had heard great things about the scallops and asked if they were able to make them, the waitress asked the chef, and the chef obliged my special request and oh man, these were the stars of the show! Amazing sear, perfectly cooked, sweet flavors. The puree that they sat upon was incredible, did not overpower the flavor at all. The touch of bacon lardons and the greens and potatoes along side were cooked to PERFECTION. I could've eaten three orders of this, my wallet be damned. 10/10
Next we shared an order of Maryland Crab Cakes, and they were everything as could be expected. Cooked perfectly, no overpowering seasonings, the crab shone through as it should. The French fries were blanched yet still fresh cut, making them this delicious hybrid fry that had crunch, fluffy centers, and a great taste. The accompanying slaw was dry, shredded greens with little to no flavor. They didn't get eaten, but they didn't add or take away from the dish at all. 9/10
For entrees I had the Rigatoni Bolognese, one of my favorite pasta dishes, and one that excites me when I see it on the menu. It's a creamy style Bolognese which is even better in my eyes. The presentation was nice, but the flavor was entirely and wholeheartedly boring. The meat sauce was hearty in it's composition, plenty of meat, however they only flavor present was cream. Despite being hot and fresh, the sauce didn't adhere to the Rigatoni, and left a bit of a puddle as you are the noodles. This could've HIGHLY benefitted from some sort of green addition, spinach, fresh basil, or something else, as would've something to kind of help the cream along, as wouldve a spoonful of pasta water in the sauce to help it bind to the noodles themselves. I was left wanting more, anything more, a small amount of red pepper, anything. The saving Grace was that after we had split so many plates as we were on a tasting mission, these made for great leftovers (I'm a weirdo who likes cold pasta from the fridge) and was much better later that day with the addition of some hot sauce, although I felt I was bastardizing the dish. 6/10
Finally, my girlfriend had the grilled chicken rice bowl. The chicken had an amazing smoky flavor, well apparent it was made in an actual grill, the portion was great, and everything in it was fresh and delicious. 8/10
Overall, stick to the FRESH seafood items.I would absolutely be back knowing what items to avoid and where their strong points are.
47/70 I'm giving the place 4 stars despite our experience this time being closer to a 3, only because we know what parts of the menu to watch!
