I saw new a listing for an apartment and this was ...

I saw new a listing for an apartment and this was the agency listed to contact. I called their office and an automatic system asked if I had a reference number, and if not to press 2. There was no reference number in the listing so obviously I pressed 2.

A woman picks up the phone and I explain that I saw a listing of theirs and I'm interested. She asks for the reference number. I tell her I don't see one. She claims there must be but she can't tell me where I might find it in the listing.

I ask if I can give her the details of the listing and she can locate it (every other agency I have ever called has been able to do this, usually via price/size/location, all of which I had). She told me to visit their website directly and find the reference number, and then she abruptly hung up. She was extremely short with her responses and quite frankly rude.

The apartment wasn't listed on their website either, but I decided after that type of treatment on the phone that I would never rent from this agency and will happily warn others not to do so either.

P.S. Why does this agency have an automatic answering system that allows you to select an option saying you do not have a reference number if the person who eventually answers the call insists on having one?
