A medical billing department billed my insurance using a misspelling of my name and an out dated address. My insurance rejected the bill and they sent the bill to collections. It was many months later that the first bill was forwarded to my correct address. Confused, I called the billing office and they apologized and corrected the information and re-billed to my insurance. While I waiting for the insurance payment to go through, the bill was inappropriately reported to my credit as a negative item despite the agreement to take the bill out of collections. I received a bill for the co-payment of 22.00 dollars and paid promptly. The remaining $342.00 was paid by my insurance company. I contacted the billing department again to say that the item was not only still on my credit report, but it was also showing as unpaid. All of this is a direct result of a billing error and I have paid the price. I have an upcoming surgery and was not covered by care credit because of this negative item. I have routinely called both the collection agency and the billing department to resolve the issue and yet, the billing department tells me, "we asked them to remove it all from your credit" and the collection department say, "we have not heard anything from them. The bill stands as valid. Perhaps this is a different service date." Credit Control Corp treats me as if I am lying and talks condescendingly to me every time I speak with them. Mind you, I request to speak to a manager each time. The managers behave far worse than their own subordinates. When a company uses it's position to exert a negative impact on the livelihood of a consumer, whether an account is owed legitimately or not, they are behaving outside of ethical boundaries. I feel strongly that these individuals should be held accountable for the damage they have done to the lives of so many consumers. I've done nothing wrong and did not avoid payment. The billing department made a mistake, corrected it, and now the collections department is exploiting it. If they can't talk to me respectfully, then they will have to contend with an attorney instead. It should be noted, that I challenged this item with the credit bureau as well when I felt that working directly with the billing and collection departments was getting me nowhere. Transunion recently notified me that the collection agency verified the bill as accurate, which tells me that they did not properly investigate the legitimacy of the collection item.
