Matt Hillman Review of Hilton/ Doubletree Clearwater ...
Summary:
Summary:
Fantastic location. Everything else not so much. For a "resort" in this price range this needs to be much, much better and provide a much higher value.
We stayed here for the weekend and were both completely disappointed.
Really the only thing the Hilton Clearwater Beach has going for it is the location. It is right on Clearwater Beach in walking distance to just about everything. Unfortunately so are many other places within the same price range that are far, far better.
You have to pay for parking (Self or valet) but the parking lots stay full and we were told "Oh just drive around and you should be able to find something. If not, park on the street and try again later". When being charged to park you had better have enough parking and be a bit more helpful.
Entering the building the lobby is beautiful and well laid out. That's where it stops though. The rest of the building is very dated looking and poorly designed.
The rooms are very simple without any standout features. The big issue here is when going out onto the balcony all the gulf facing rooms look out over the roof of the ground floor. That roof is covered with trash and AC/Laundry units so all you hear is machinery. It was impossible to hear the ocean which is a prime reason to pay all the extra fees/money to stay on the beach. Plus who wants to look out over a roof covered in cigarette butts and trash?
They charge a parking fee per car of $10/day self park or $18/day valet. They also charge a $20/day resort fee. The resort fee includes towels, 2 bottles of water (Refilled by room service so if you don't have room service come in you won't get your waters) and 2 tickets for drinks (Pina Colada, beer or a couple other well brand drinks to choose from) and that's it as far as I can tell. Beach items such as umbrellas or chairs are extra. No breakfast included (Breakfast options are Continental buffet for $14 or full breakfast buffet for $18).
The pool is very basic rectangular pool with nothing special. There is a hot tub though when we were there we were told by staff that the jets were broken.
There is one small bar outdoor by the pool and one small bar on the beach though they were all closed by 10pm even though it was the weekend.
Food at the restaurant was average though prices were high. Same goes for room service though that's to be expected.
Overall, there are several other hotels within walking distance that are in the exact same price range but offer much, much more (Sandpearl Resort for example). There was nothing that would bring me back here and several things that would specifically make me avoid this hotel.
Pros:
Right on Clearwater Beach but that's it
Cons:
Due to loud machinery on trash covered roof none of the rooms can hear the ocean
Expensive fees that don't really provide anything
Bars close early even on weekends
Outdated decor
Very hard uncomfortable mattress
Unhelpful staff
Very slow internet unless you pay to upgrade to "Premium wifi"
