A delightful stay at a very comfortable hotel in the heart of Vail.

Our Junior suite was very nicely appointed and quite comfortable. A big king bed with soft mattresses and pillows, in-house fireplace, walk-in closet and a positively opulent bathroom. The room was very clean and immaculately maintained, with a great view. The two-person soaker tub was divine. Great water pressure.

There were a few niggling oversights. The bathrobes were not sized for an adult man. We had to call down for extra pillows and there was a bizarre electrical issue where hitting the wrong light switch killed all power in the room in the middle of the night. Weirdly the minibar didn't have any liquor. Spa fees were mandatory whether or not you use those services, which felt a little extortionate. The room service fees were frankly outrageous; I've spent less money at five star hotels with white-gloved butler staff. Sixty dollars for a mimosa and a bowl of oatmeal was ludicrous. Good gluten free options though. The food at the in house restaurant was of very middling quality, with big hits and misses (burgers were quite good, superlative tomato bisque, absolutely terrible lobster mac.) The Sonnenalp is conveniently close to many activites and locations in Vail. We enjoyed our stay.
