I made a an appointment at the "Genius Bar" (there's a misnomer if there ever was one) because I had an issue with the GPS not working correctly on my iPhone 6. The employee glanced at my phone for a brief moment, noticing there was a VERY slight bend in case. He immediately concluded that the bend had caused damage a component that was soldered on to the case, and therefore the only solution was to buy a new phone. Indeed, this seemed like a routine sales tactic, so I decided to spend some time on google looking for a more economical solution. I eventually found a discussion on the iFixit forums with other iPhone 6 users who were experiencing the same issue. The solution? A FIVE DOLLAR antenna flex cable off of Amazon, and there was no soldering involved what-so-ever. So after ordering this part and spending two hours performing the repair myself, my GPS accuracy was back to normal. So what's the deal, are "Genius Bar" employees just second line salesman who are encouraged to sell new phones rather than offer a real diagnosis?
