The sheer scale of the palace at Versailles is hard to fathom. Even after being there and walking around for several hours, it feels like you just scratched the surface. One could easily spend days on end finding various little nooks and grottos in the gardens. It's a quick and direct train ride out of Paris, so there is no excuse to not visit Versailles if you are in the Paris metro area.
