The decor, general customer service, cleanliness and overall atmosphere were fantastic. The Fairmont Kea Lani stands out from other hotels in that it has a very beautiful mix of Moroccan/Grecian architectural aspects to it. Add the ocean/beach backdrop and you have an exotic tropical paradise. The pools, water slide, complimentary fitness classes and other fun scheduled events (e.g. koi feeding) are great for those who do not like to venture far from a hotel. The location of the hotel is also ideal because of its close proximity to beautiful beaches such as Makena and Keawakapu beach.
The only hiccups I experienced were the seeming lack of emergency evacuation plan (I was in Hawaii when a mass text about ballistic missile threat was sent) - there was no announcement about where to go or what to do. Staff and guests bumbled around. In my dark humor, I remember thinking that should my last hour be spent at Fairmont Kea Lani, I suppose it would be quite ethereal. Second, I felt a bit slighted during my checkout experience at the Fairmont - it seemed like guests were proactively being offered juice to drink. Even though I waited in the lobby 15 minutes for the bellboy to help me retrieve luggage, I felt that the individuals serving juice seemed to purposely ignore me. It was an uncomfortable feeling devoid of aloha. Third, when retrieving luggage from the bellboy (there is a tag that identifies the number of luggage being held), one of our luggage was not delivered and it was only after exiting the parking lot that we realized this. Despite these events that transpired, I would still recommend the Fairmont, with the assumption that these particular experiences were an anomaly.
My final word is that the Fairmont has a special shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and lotion scent manufactured by Le Labo called Rose 31. I am in love with it. The scent of Rose 31 is enough to lure me back to the Fairmont.
