Went there for the play and dinner deal that they have with the slightly off Broadway theater group in Excelsior. That deal at ventana gives you a salad, choice from 4 entrees and a dessert along with the theater tickets.
The restaurant was busy when we arrived but we had reservations and they got us seated quite quickly. Drink orders were taken very fast, but after having the details of our package explained it took quite a long time to have our orders taken the waitress apologized and our food came quickly. We all ordered the Caesar Salad, and we were all disappointed. The salad came on a long skinny rectangle plate. Besides being pitifully small The dressing was on the side. Caesar salads in our tables opinion are best tossed, applying the dressing yourself at the table results in clumps of dressing that is less appealing. The house salads we saw looked much better. The main course offerings for he dinner and show package are very limited there are 5 choices 3 of which where variations of chicken and pasta. I don't really ever want pasta. the other 2 choices were a white fish and a smothered chicken. I chose that.
The chicken was smothered in mushrooms, onion and bacon with mashed potatoes. All very tasty, but just too small. the others in my party ordered one of the chicken and pasta meals those came with a choice of bread smothered chicken did not. The pasta filled their plates, the mashed potatoes where not even visible under the onions. Even with dessert that was great I was left hungry. I don't understand why some restaurants act like romaine lettuce and potatoes are the most expensive ingredients they have.
