The Melbourne Zoo is a bit of a mix bag. The main reason to come here is if you have children or live local and want a zoo experience. Tourists from overseas may like the idea of seeing Australian animals in a somewhat convenient location but there are much better experiences elsewhere (such as Healesville sanctuary or one of the wildlife parks further away from central Melbourne). I would not recommend this place as a regular "day trip", not because the experience is particularly bad (I would say its okay) but the pricing of tickets is very high.
