Meg B Review of Coolangatta Hotel

Wish I could give this establishment a zero star for their absolutely appalling, racist behaviour. On the 27 July 2019, we took our Filipino friend for a night out in Coolangatta. We lined up to get our IDs checked and when our friend s Filipino licence was checked, we were told it was legally not a valid form of ID, despite us getting in other clubs and RSLs with the same form of ID.
The blonde security guard kept pointing at the signs on the wall saying it s up there, it s the law. Yet when we asked where it stated that, he said I don t know, I don t have time to read it. Then we were pushed away and refused entry. We googled the law surrounding this, and established that international drivers licences are a valid form of ID and the security guard had just blatantly lied to refuse our entry.
When we returned to tell them that this law was in fact made up, the little blonde kid behind the desk who had witnessed the earlier interaction, told us to go away (in much ruder language) and that they didn t care for our laws. We then spoke to another security guard who said that we could come in, seeing that we were in the right. We obviously did not want to support a business that lets their staff get away with blatant racist behaviour. The little blonde kid behind the desk refused to take any responsibility for what had happened and would not even apologise.
They proceeded to say that they were not a racist establishment, but they don t let Aboriginal people in because they cause trouble. Absolutely disgusting that a place in 2019 can get away with this behaviour with zero consequence.
