kevin m Review of Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation...
I saw what I thought was an owl alongside the road...
I saw what I thought was an owl alongside the road just north of Milford on Hwy 77. It seemed very odd to me that he would just be standing there. We circled back around and got out to determine if my eyes have deceived me once again, but they had not. There was the biggest Barred Owl standing there next to the road with a bloody face. I googled "raptor rescue" and found RWR, called and they said they would be happy to look after him. I thru a jacket over him and we headed back North having made the decision to seek help for him and pass up yet another opportunity to go fishing.
We arrived at RWR, they were eager to get him cleaned up and inspected. Looked like he took a hit to the face and damaged an eye. I'm sure from an auto accident, as there was another owl across the street flattened in the road. She said he should be fine, I donated to his care and took a small tour thru the facility. They had every imaginable bird you could think of, Bald Eagle, Red Tail Hawks, from hummingbirds to turkey, blue jays to parakeets, blue heron, pelican, geese, ducks, you name it. Even a tame Kite inside munching on meal worms.
You might call them, I think they have a tour and it would be a great place to take the kids to learn/see. I'm sure for those who can't visit you could donate to help the cause. (I wasn't compensated to say that)
We thought about going back to check on the Barred Owl , hopefully he's on the road to recovery. I know when he got there he had a death grip on the jacket I covered him in leaving puncture wounds in the material.
Go Barred Owl!
