Sun Studio

If you love Elvis then this is a must see your. We had about an hour wait but that went quickly enjoying a coke in the old time soda shop, listening to the music of the era. My favorite part was the actual studio itself. You can feel the musicians spirits in there.

The Staff was very friendly. It was loaded with lots of memories.

Cool place...if you're a music fan you should take a look.

Pretty good pricing, and with the free shuttle from Graceland to this location is very helpful.

This is a great piece of history, and one of the few tourist attractions us Memphians don't avoid like the plague. (None of us actually visit Graceland)

If you are at all interested in the history of American music, don't miss the Sun Studio tour. You can learn all this elsewhere, but to stand in the room where it happened is special. Informative tour and tons of memorabilia to view.

See where much of Memphis' music was recorded in the 60s. A true time capsule. You might even get to hold the mic that's been there since the beginning.

This is a cool place, is a recording studio opened by rock-and-roll pioneer Sam Phillips at 706 Union Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 3, 1950. It was originally called Memphis Recording Service, sharing the same building with the Sun Records label business.

Worth the price. Great history and good tour guide. Parking is difficult when the place is busy. Enjoyed it.

Absolutely terrible service! Tours only, which are at 30mins past the hour. Maybe this (tours only) should be on the website. When I mentioned the site needs updating to show this I was greeted with a laugh, greet way to run a business! Drive hours for no reason. Go to Stax instead.

So excited to see the studio my grandfather recorded at as well as many more well the more famous artist. Disappointed to see no acknowledgement of his band. Really crowded but wasn t terrible. One of the workers found out I was family and offered me and my daughter a free tour but didn t have time to see it. So we got a free guitar pick. I have several Sun shirts that my grandpa gifted to me and I wear with pride, out of respect for my granddad who has worked so hard for his career and is proud to represent Sun. Just wish their could have been more of a presence for the band and the fact that at that time they were one of if not the oldest living recording artist of Sun Records. Now two members have passed and the others are not getting any younger.

What a great way to learn the history of a particular era of music. It allowed me to look at things in a new way and get her much better appreciation for what musicians and the industry goes through to get music out there to us. And our guide was just terrific. Studios, go in there and give her a big contract and get her while you can.

This was a visit i dont forget, the guy who did the tour was amazing, he lived the sun-studios.......he is great. He made you live in the early years...

Words can't describe the historical significance of this building. The tour guide is great and gives a great presentation worthy of the small fee to live the moment.

I'm sure that it goes without saying that Sun Studios is a place like no other. I mean, really, the place where that kid from Tupelo, MS, an appliance salesman from Dyess, AR, a poor sharecroppers son from Tiptonville, TN, and that wild child from Louisiana got their start cannot be duplicated! Memphis, TN is certainly a place of music makers, shakers, and takers and with all the history in and around the city, Sun Studios just sits where it is, kinda casual-like. Walking up on the building, the huge guitar hanging off the building kind of tips its hat and whispers, "Psst. Hey, you. Yeah, you. Come here, check this out. Take the tour, you won't regret it!" We bought our tickets in person and were given the available tour. The tours are every 30 minutes and they fill up pretty quick. While you wait, get an ice cream float, peruse the t-shirts and memorabilia. When the time comes the guide makes an announcement so that no one misses their cue. The tour begins upstairs in the "Gallery" where the artifacts (it's a museum, after all) tell the story of Sam Phillips and the genesis of Sun Studios peppered with recording of various artists to drive some of the points home. Our tour guide, Mark, is phenomenal. He narrated the tour with enthusiasm and a reverential respect you would expect from a musician that gets to work at "the birthplace of Rock N' Roll". After the warm-up (the gallery really is the opening act), our guide led us downstairs and through Marion Keisker's office into the room where it all happened for the headliner. Let's be clear, it's nothing short of awesome to be in that room. For an encore, Mark let us stay in the studio to take pictures and daydream for awhile. Sun Studios is well worth the price of admission (and what ever you decide to tip your guide). If you're visiting Memphis or if you live in Memphis and just haven't yet, please check this place out. It's spectacular!

Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Charlie Rich, Rufus Thomas and countless other musicians started their careers here. Very good museum about the birthplace of rock music! Very interesting and entertaining tour with lots of background information. The admission price is relatively cheap.

An awesome slice of Memphis and music history that is neatly preserved.

Well, the admission price is steep, however this is one of those places that I was willing to pay for. There is not too much to see or tour, but there is an enthusiastic guide with a well rehearsed narrative. It's not about that, it is about being in the actual place where so many greats stood, performed, recorded and changed history. What it leaves you with is inspiring, because you realize that it is not about location, or studio space, or even equipment. It is and was about people. About vision. About daring. The place is pretty busy, I recommend taking the last tour at 5:30 pm. Four stars only because of the ticket price. It is a must see.

The tour is really fun. Be sure to move around the room and see everything because the tour goes quick. My partner missed a section because we had to move on to the studio itself.

You can still feel the vibes! Mark is an excellent guide!
