We cruised in this local joint at happy hour. Try the scotch eggs! My partner really likes eggs and I usually hate them, but these were done to perfection and had real taste! The draft list was well rounded and $3 beers for happy hour (microbrews) is a good deal. Even with 4 beers, an appetizer and an entre, our bill was less than 40. If I am ever in this area of Philly again, I will stop by.

Comfortable craft-only beer pub offering a reliably changing selection of suds across twenty taps, including two casks and one nitro. Standard selection of liquors and a small wine selection for the non beer lovers. Vegan and veggie options on the menu with one of the best burgers in the area.

The worst part about trying this place tonight is the realization that I discovered it three days before I move away from Philly. I absolutely loved it. Great beer and food. The cheeseburger was the best I've ever had. Seriously. No desserts though :( Highly recommended.

I"m writing this from the perspective of food - for the beer/location/ambiance look at the other reviews. But the food here is fairly expensive for what you get, especially if you consider the other equal priced options nearby Local 44. You don't get too large a portion and it has a fairly high price tag.

On the other hand the bar is nice and people really like the atmosphere it seems, but I'm not really into that kind of thing. If you don't care about the food, then just ignore this review.

Love this place! Went for the Saturday morning English Premiere League football breakfast (gotta get the English fry, it's huge) and expected a moderately large crowd but it wasn't crowded at all. Only 6 other customers at the bar watching the match. NP as I and others who trickled in later were able to sit at the bar. Had the Brunch BLT, over easy eggs, Canadian bacon, lettuce and tomato on an 'everything' roll. Very tasty. Also, the menu is full of vegan options more than any other place I have been. They have a great beer selection with some specials including a select British bitters which on Saturday morning is discounted $1 for Premier league games. Opens at 10am on Saturday for the EPL matches as they are broadcast live from England which is 5 hours ahead. They stopped serving the English Fry and the big pancake but there are other items on the menu that I found interesting (West Philly is a favorite). Anyway, the beer and food menus are worth the trip to 44th and Spruce St. Just a word of caution, parking can be a bit challenging so I suggest using public transportation or ride share.

The woman who served us was very nice and friendly. She checked up on us occasionally and the food xane quickly. As good as the server was, the food was awful. I had a rotisserie half-chicken and it tasted like it was half cooked. The bbq sauce was more like watered-down ketchup and my sofa was flat. To recap: wonderful server, horrific food.

Skip this place. Bad food and bad service. The beer selection is great, but that's about it. The service is slow which wouldn't be so bad if the wait staff weren't also very rude. We were trying to have a nice family lunch and they practically pushed us out the door. The food is also nothing to write home about. The wings were decent. We also ordered their breakfast burger which comes with old, raw bacon and old, overcooked eggs! We asked for new bacon but the waitress told us we couldn't have any since they cook all the bacon first thing in the morning, but that they'd heat up the old bacon for us. Ew. They also took our napkins in the middle of the meal. Why? We were also scolded by one of the waitresses for putting a glass on an unused table (which remained vacant for the duration of our 2 hour visit) in an attempt to make room for our food. Sorry we annoyed you with our business. We won't waste our money here again, and neither should you.

Local 44 has an impecable selection, but their customer service is definitely lacking. I ve been a loyal customer for a while. I bought a $25 bottle of wine, and their bag broke less than a block away- they refused to refund the purchase or give me another bottle to replace it. Very disappointed!

Quiet neighborhood bar with a good collection of local beers and some from outside the Philly region. The best part about this place is their rotating beer menu which keeps coming here a new experience always. Their food menu goes beyond just pub finger food and bring together done really nicely done dishes.

It seems like a fun place to grab a drink. I went for a business discussion and it was loud. Menu isn't huge. They have some off the normal choices, which I liked. Wings were tasty, hot and well presented. I wish blue cheese dressing or celery sticks had been an option though. Overall fun.

I had the Local 44 Breakfast Burger and a Double Chocolate Stout by Yard's. Both were great. I went in when the colleges were closed for winter break, so it was pretty mellow. There were people, but no wait, and it was definitely not crowded. My partner liked her simple eggs and toast breakfast as well.

it's a very nice quirky corner bar is university city. it has dark decor and is cozy. (that's slang for small) they have a few beers on tap. respectful amount. their menu is diverse with typical bar foods to vegan options and twist to old favorites like the Vietnamese fish oil wings. (smells horrid, taste awesome) parking in this area may be difficult so I recommend walking or Ubering here. if I'm in the area again , I will stop in.

With a great selection of taps and a decent food menu Local 44 has been a staple for university students and the west Philadelphia community for years now. I can rev omens their ramen. You may question ramen from a pub, but it was pretty grand. Food wise local 44 is on the steep side of prices, but don't be fooled you are getting some quality eats. Yes they have a happy hour, and yes it is a nice relaxing place to grab a drink with coworkers.

Dope corner bar with a chill atmosphere. Should be noted I've only been here during the day so not sure what the atmosphere is like during HH or weekend night. They've got one or two sour beers on tap and they are some of the most delicious sour beers I've had. Also super good food. The brussel sprouts do not disappoint.

Oh my God that place was bad let me count the ways. Rude pretentious waitress, who never came around to check back, except to refill our warm iceless water glasses. The food wasn't too bad or I'd give it zero Stars. By the way the menu that's on the internet doesn't exist!, The menu that we ended up eating off of was extremely limited to say the least.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! The local 44 is my favorite place eat in West Philadelphia. The service is always excellent, the food is amazing and the beer is second to none. Parking can be tricky and some nights it gets crowded, still its always worth the trip. I recommend their Vegetarian seitan reuben sandwich...one of the best meals I have ever had. So good that I think of it at quiet moments...and taste it in my dreams.

Love everyone who works there and find myself there wayyyy too often. They always have a good menu with good specials. Great wings and burgers. Also try the spicy chicken noodle soup if you are in the mood for something a bit spicy and filling. I always try the food specials and I've never been let down. Check it out!!!

Right off the bat, this is a restaurant and a bar, so if you do not feel comfortable in such a place, don't come here. Local 44 is poorly lit with okay food, but not great for kids or people who want to be in and out. Service is somewhat slow, but the food may be worth the wait, depending on what you get. Is a bit pricey, but as most West Philly restaurants go, it is moderately priced compared to other breakfast options downtown. There always seems to be a great deal of hipsters in this place, so if you have a hipster aversion, don't come here. They have vegan/vegetarian fare and items can be modified for allergenic or preference needs (try the breakfast burger). Also, Local 44 is located in a very accessible position, and is one of 4 good restaurants on that block of 44th street, try Tampopo for Japanese/Korean food, the Li'l Pop Shop for homemade popsicles, pies, and whatever else they have that day, and the venerable Honest Tom's Taco Shop for Mexican Cuisine.

Local 44 was my first restaurant stop in Philly and it set the bar high for the rest of the trip. There are so many vegan and veggie options. The beer selection is excellent. The staff is quick and efficient even during peak hours. It can get hella crowded, but it's more cozy than irritating.

Honestly if you aren't a so called "Hipster" DONT NOT EAT HERE. You will be profiled. The server was annoyed with us and attempted to push us out before we were ready. She was annoyed when we were not ready to order. The menu is very limited if you are not vegan. Good beer menu. Would give this place a 1 if not for the beer selection. The atmosphere is not anything great either.

Do you like bearded hipsters? Pretentious posers? Everybody talking a little bit too loud as if they want to be sure you've heard every last but about how cool they are? Then this is the place for you! But watch out, if you order another high alcohol beer, like an overbearing nanny they will tell you no. Omg what a loser place.

I've been here about 5 times previously. Came in about 10pm for dinner. We were quickly seated and placed our orders. One vegan ramen and horseradish turkey burger. Ramen was hot, flavorful and had complex. Turkey burger was too peppery. Liquor selection is not extensive, beer selection is great with many local brewers available.

Our server was attentive and made great recommendations. Would definitely return.
