Haifa (in Hebrew: ) is one of the largest and most important historical cities of Palestine, located today in the Israeli Haifa District on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, and away from Jerusalem about 158 km to the northwest. With a population of about 272,181 people in addition to 300,000 living in the residential suburbs around the city, which makes it the third largest city in the country after Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in terms of population, of whom Jews are the majority, while Arabs (Christians and Muslims) constitute the minority after most of them were displaced in the Nakba in 1948. The University of Haifa is a public university located on Mount Carmel in Haifa. The university was established as a university institute in 1963, and in 1972 was declared an independent university, becoming the sixth academic institution established in Israel, and the fourth university. The university houses the largest university library in Israel. As of 2017, about 18,100 students are registered at the University of Haifa.
Haifa University Institute Editing
The "Haifa University Institute" was established in 1963 under the academic auspices of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, at the initiative of Haifa Mayor Abba Hushi and the director of the municipal education department, Moshe Rinot, and under the budgetary responsibility of the municipality [2]. The agreement on the establishment of the institute stipulated that the institute would grant its graduates in the Faculty of Humanities and in the Faculty of Social Sciences a bachelor's degree from the Hebrew University. The institute's residence was at the Ardstein House on Y. Street. To. Peretz in Hadar HaCarmel. The "Haifa University Institute" was a success in its early years and many students from the north of the country sought to study there [3]. Within a few years the house became crowded to accommodate all the students. Following this, the University Institute was moved to Carmel, to a building that housed the "Urban E" school in the 2000s. In October 1965, the cornerstone scroll was written for the campus in its current location, which was built on the Khariba lands purchased on the Carmel summit, and was intended to be a green area. [4] The university's CEO and first president was Eliezer Refaeli.

In 1964, 472 students studied at the institute, and within six years their number doubled sixfold - in 1970, the institute numbered 2,794 students. In 1967, the first 61 graduates of the institution graduated. In 1971, curricula for a university degree were introduced for the first time in three departments. The last graduation ceremony of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, held this year, marked the end of the sponsorship period during which 1,826 undergraduate students graduated and 457 students received a teaching training certificate. A year later, in 1972, the University of Haifa received academic recognition from the Council for Higher Education.

Academic Independence Editing
In 1972, the University of Haifa received academic recognition and gained full academic independence. In that year, the number of academic staff stood at 265 positions. With the establishment of the university, the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the School of Education and the School of Social Work were approved. The following additional classes were also approved: Bible, Hebrew Literature and Hebrew Language, History of the People of Israel, General History, English Language and Literature, Arabic Language and Literature, History of the Islamic Lands, Philosophy, French Language and Literature, Art, Education, Psychology, Geography, sociology, political science, economics and statistics. In 14 of the departments, master's degree programs were also introduced. In 1980, the first study program for a doctorate in the Department of Psychology was introduced. In 1984, the Reuven Museum and the Hecht Museum were inaugurated.

It might not be the best university I studied at, but it will always be the university where I grew up academically. Thank you for being the only context in Israel which enabled me to meet with all those teachers and classmates who saw me as human and student.

Amazing city and underrated in levels. Recommends all the youth in the center to stop being blind and go like sheep to Tel Aviv, overpriced there and it is not as cool as Haifa. In Haifa you can rent an apartment without selling a kidney and eat properly, there is a Sabbath, atmosphere, interesting and different people, lots of places to go out and crazy vibes. Nature lovers have two streams in the city and the city is a short distance from the stunning Carmel Forest.

A must-see for tourists. A stunning vantage point, you can see the whole city and surroundings. Convenient to get there - the bus goes straight to the university.
The only inconvenience is that the university is surrounded by a fence, there is only one exit and entrance: D

My experience was most definitely worthwhile. Though the UofH was only a month and I still have the whole semester here, I feel like I already have gained more open-mindedness when it comes to other cultures and ways of living, independence and confidence from living and traveling on my own, and perseverance when it comes to my own education and advancement in the future.
