Haifa (in Hebrew: ) is one of the largest and most important historical cities of Palestine, located today in the Israeli Haifa District on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, and away from Jerusalem about 158 km to the northwest. With a population of about 272,181 people in addition to 300,000 living in the residential suburbs around the city, which makes it the third largest city in the country after Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in terms of population, of whom Jews are the majority, while Arabs (Christians and Muslims) constitute the minority after most of them were displaced in the Nakba in 1948.
