Building with a history, you can say: a very long history. The twentieth century had been underway for less than six months when, during a summer storm in June, lightning struck the tower with rather disastrous consequences: "Everything that could burn was gone", it has been recorded. Should the ruin remain or should it be cleaned up? Cuypers, the Cuypers, is working on De Haar Castle, a few kilometers further, is asked for advice: tower church must remain. Thus it happens. For the attentive viewer: the brickwork shows which parts were replaced after the fire. After which much more happened. In the meantime, in a beautifully maintained park, it is still there, in the evening in the light.

Beautiful building in the center of Harmelen. Nice and cozy square there, a real talk pit. Nicely maintained and beautifully lit in the evening.

When the church building of Harmelen was founded is not known exactly.
What is certain is that the church appears under the year 1279 in the tithe register of 1275-1280. According to De Bruin, there is already a church building in Harmelen in the 9th century.
