I went there for my grandsons10th Birthday. The party hosts were so good @ getting the kids attention. Even I climbed, and I thought it was an amazing experience. I can see how this would be quite the work out. Our hosts were very polite & informative. Thanks Pierre & Miranda. I might be back.

Great place, friendly people. You can always find someone to trade belays with.
I wish they refreshed the routes more frequently.
The ratings here are harder than many gyms, which is fine, just something to be aware of. For example a route rated 5.10 here would be a 5.11 at another gym. The ratings tend to correspond well to outdoor climbing

TOTALLY AWESOME STAFF - Great Place to Host a Kid's Birthday Party
I've been meaning to post a review for months now and have even more reason to do so!
Back in October, we hosted my son's 9th birthday at the Grimes location. Prior to booking online, we had never visited the facility. (The online booking was user friendly and super easy.)
So after booking, we decided it was probably best if we tried things out before the party. We went climbing and had a wonderful time!
Prior to the party date, we received communication (email & phone) regarding the terms and expectations of the party (including an online tracking system which allowed for easy tracking of guest attendance and if they had submitted the required waiver).
On the day of the party, the staff had EVERYTHING totally ready for our arrival. (To include the party room set up with party favors for each kid!) The two staff members assigned to our party were SUPER AWESOME! They were knowledgeable, explained everything so the kiddos understood, attentive, and very engaging with the kids. We even had two additional kiddos attending which bumped our party number over the maximum; the staff members didn't allow for this to overwhelm them, they were so great about it!
After the party, I started to clean the room and the staff members were SO HELPFUL! They insisted they would take care of it for me.
A few days after the party, we received a *handwritten* postcard in the mail wishing my son a happy birthday. Talk about service!!

When I arrived here, I was but a feeble weakling with a broken spine. Even the most elementary challenges stood dauntingly before me like insurmountable blockades. And yet, by the strength and technique vested in me by Climb Iowa, I can conquer any climb with ease. I now write this from atop Mt. Everest, reflelcting on my journey from humble beginnings to reaching the summit of Earth itself. I have Climb Iowa to thank for the summation of my achievements.

All hyperbole aside, climb Iowa is a great place to come and exercise. It's never too crowded and there are constantly new and challenging routes appearing on the walls. The prices are agreeable and the staff are kind and helpful. Get there today!!!!!!!

I still like this place but they moved all of the auto-belay into one small corner, no big deal right? Wrong, for one the walls are all shorter over in the corner. If there is a group or it is busy then the corner gets pretty packed to the point you cannot climb. I certainly understand the benefits for "serious climbers" or people who have time to attend the belay class; they have unlimited possibilities, great if you are in that group but I am not so I feel like I'm stuck in the kiddie corner.
I showed up today, got geared up and headed to the corner, it was so busy I decided it wasn't even worth my time. When I left an employee asked how it was, I said I didn't even climb and trIced to explain the corner, he said yeah, it's real busy. This was at 3 in the afternoon, not really the response I was looking for.

I met the owner and he was so rude. The workers do their job at half oh what they're supposed to do. There often kids younger than 13 up in the teenage areas and no one does anything about it but when my brother does something wrong they go on him like The world depends on it.

Planned a birthday party day to have son s friends climb together. Called to ask them about availability. They said they don t plan events like this but we are open and available this particular day. We had friends together only to find out they had a private event and we couldn t climb. Well, that s awkward and disappointing. Bad customer service and a total birthday blunder on their end.

I would not consider myself an expert climber but I would not recommend this place to anyone who is not a first time climber. First of all the layout is terrible. There is a bouldering wall literally in the middle of the climbing floor, which means anyone trying to wait for an auto belay has the chance to get pummeled either by people descending or bouldering. There should be more than 6 feet between your climbing wall and bouldering mats. It's just ridiculous. On top of that their belay check is a joke. While I was waiting my turn to get checked, I had to provide instruction to the instructor signing off on my check for another testing pair as he didn't know how to use a grigri and the person testing clearly didn't know either. But despite the fact the person testing clearly had NO CLUE what he was doing, the instructor signed off anyway. I was completely appalled about the standard of safety. And if that all wasn't enough, this place is a kid zoo. People literally set their children free and you have to swim through them to get to anything. I will never come back or recommend this place to anyone in the area.

Very nice staff that seems to make everyone that walks in the door feel at home. Great to see all the small children learning. Ive been climbing trees for 12yrs and ive even learned a few things from this younger crowd at this gym. Ive noticed that everytime im there they are at a constant battle to keep the walls maintained and changing.Im addicted now and bought my own rock gear to hang next to my tree gear...

Great job guys ! ! !

I'm so happy I found this place. The only reason for 4 stars is their hours. If they would be open in the morning, that would completely change the game for me. After work the place is usually PACKED. As a newbie, it can be distracting and somewhat discouraging when it's overflowing like it can be.

This is a fun thing to do so that if you never did any rock climbing before you can practice before doing real rock climbing. Also this is more safe for special need people and for little kids. Little kids younger than a 10 year old shouldn't do this . If the kids not 15 years old at least then don't do climbing with the curve that makes you look like your gonna be upside down a little and don't do the climbing where you don't have someone connecting you to a rope and holding on to you

It's a nice big gym with 20+ different runs, half a dozen auto-belays in case you're either there in the middle of the afternoon like I usually am, or you just don't have any friends to belay you.. also perfect for me. ;) Friendly, knowledgeable staff. SAFE environment. Locker rooms, work-out room, several different skill levels for bouldering as well as climbing.

My only complaints are the $50 start-up fee and if you pay by EFT the $7 hold fee if you need to skip a month. Most gyms charge a start-up fee but I just don't agree with it. Also, I feel like you should be able to skip a month at will. It's not like there's a lot of paperwork involved, just click a button and don't charge me. Not really worth $7.

I come here 2 to 3 times a week. Facilities are excellent, there are always plenty of routes that they rotate out often enough. The staff are always very friendly and helpful, and most of them are very experienced climbers. My only complaint is that I wish they would have gotten more creative with the walls themselves (added chimneys, more arete climbs, caves, etc)

I loved the Giant climbing walls i couldn't be pulled away from them.It looks small on the outside but gigantic on the inside i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw the walls. Thank you Matthew for your great help with the course and hope you will be surprised if we meet again hope you have fun with the Girl Scout troops/ Boy Scouts!

It's the best (and only) climbing gym in Iowa! Honestly though, this place is fantastic. Employees are nice - I don't know if they've ever failed to at least say "hi" and "bye" when I'm there. New routes every week it seems and reasonable prices. They have bouldering, auto belay, top role and lead climbing. Yoga three times a week and classes to help you climb better. It's by far my favorite workout and I go three times a week.

I am no expert when it comes to climbing or climbing walls, as we have only been to a couple. Climb Iowa though was an enjoyable place to spend time climbing. The auto belaying devices take some getting use to. The staff gave us a thorough safety briefing and how to at the beginning. Overall, a good experience.

The staff were helpful the moment we arrived. They walked my son and I through the safety training and gave us helpful hints to stay safe. My son and I enjoyed our time there. We ended up buying a punch card and not living in the area made it a bit difficult to go. -Thinking for sure my punch card wouldn't be expired.- they insured me, "You get what you paid for." It took us a couple of years to finish up our punches. But we enjoyed it very much. One of my favorite experiences is getting a refresher on training. Thank you, so much for those experiences!

A very nice small climbing gym. Thoughtful setting at all grade levels. Good texture to the walls, resembling granite, I think. Options for top rope, lead, and plenty of auto belays for those without partners. A great asset to a small midwestern city without much access to outdoor climbing areas.

The first time my wife and I went there, we took the belay class together. I was expecting to pay $100, they charged us $50 because they were having a "promotion," though I didn't see that advertised anywhere.

This is been exemplary of my time there, the staff is very friendly, the routes are challenging, but fun, the community is great, there are lots of smiles, lots of opportunities, and just a lot of good old fashioned fun.
