They find public lines maybe or maybe not, depending on what lines & how far those are located from your house. The customer service person told me otherwise, that they ll find residential/private lines.
If you re trying to find your residents lines, you still have to call/pay someone private to come out & find them. We used Underground Detectives would recommend.
However, this shouldn t be something we have to pay to have done. The utility companies should be able to find a way to do it for free as a service to their customers, no?

Other than the law requirement, very limited benefit in the "call before you dig" guidance. HOMEOWNERS: Everything on your property is private and your responsibility. None of these companies be will actually mark YOUR connection lines on YOUR property, especially NOT the ultilities company (light, gas, & water)
Step 1: Call 811 as required
Step 2: Hire a PRIVATE locator (HOMEOWNERS = private property)
Step 3: Start your project ontime and safely

The most difficult people to deal with. I wish they would learn how to use a GPS instead of trying to figure out how many feet the location is from a particular intersection. Is intuition a lost art with this place? They can pull up your location on a map and know exactly where it is, but if you don't give them how many feet it is from an intersecting road, then there is a problem. Makes zero sense! Apparently their system 'isn't as simple as plugging in an address into a GPS' I was told. Really? Why should it be any more difficult than that? I wish there was an alternative to these people.

Called on a Monday and they said the markings would occur by Friday. Gas came out right away and left nice flags along with the yellow markings all the way up to the house. Water came out and marked a 6 foot line from the street to my water box/shut off. Worthless but if I bust a water pipe digging, we should be able to repair it. Electrical? Crickets.
