A very interesting place to visit. Being a teacher in the Midwest, I had never heard of a life-saving station. Learned a lot about this place and its role in history. There was a small fee to get in, but it was worth it. Parking is free. Limited handicapped accessibility due to the various buildings...

Took my 6 y.o. grandson on a tour of this historic U S Life Saving Station in Rodanthe, NC. Short self guided tour of half dozen buildings dating back as far as ~1874. Learned a lot about the US LSS service and the many heroic rescues performed. Educational and fun!

This place was great. They had a lot of historical info about the area and plenty of exhibits to view. Most exhibits are outdoors so dont go when it's very hot outside. Also, had a nice gift shop. The staff were amazingly helpful and informative. We took we a group of 4th graders and they were entranced by the staff telling tales of epic rescues at sea and regimented life at the station. They occasionally do drills to demonstrate the life saving techniques, call and ask for details.

Great place to explore the history of US coast gua...

Great place to explore the history of US coast guard service. Friendly staff and home to some wonderful artifacts. An original picture of Wright brothers first flight and a copy of the Telegraph message sent by them announcing their successful flight were amazing to see!

Incredible heroes! These were men in a small boat fighting the sea at its worst or the flames of a burning wreck using rudimentary equipment that was ingenious in its simplicity. All of them were risking everything for strangers passing by their island home.

This historic life-saving station in the Cape Hatteras National Park, along North Carolina's Outer Banks is fantastic. Try to catch the fascinating re-enactment of rescuing hapless sailors from a sinking ship, performed every Thursday afternoon at 2 pm. Fascinating.

Very interesting and informative historic site. The volunteer was really knowledgeable and you could tell she enjoyed passing on the history to those who toured the site. It's a great way to break up your time baking at the beach!
