Ex Cathedra: Experience Spine-Tingling Choral Music
Ex Cathedra is a renowned choral music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their spine-tingling performances for over 50 years. The group is known for their live concerts and recordings of the best, the unfamiliar, and the unexpected choral music.
The name "Ex Cathedra" means "from the chair" in Latin, which refers to the authority of a speaker or writer. This name perfectly reflects the group's commitment to excellence in choral music performance.
The ensemble was founded in 1969 by Jeffrey Skidmore, who still serves as its artistic director today. Under his leadership, Ex Cathedra has become one of the most respected and innovative choirs in Europe.
Ex Cathedra's repertoire spans from medieval chant to contemporary works, with a particular focus on Renaissance polyphony and Baroque music. They have performed at major venues across Europe and North America, including London's Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, and New York's Lincoln Center.
In addition to their live performances, Ex Cathedra also produces high-quality recordings that showcase their exceptional musicianship. Their discography includes over 30 albums that have received critical acclaim from both audiences and critics alike.
But Ex Cathedra is more than just a choir - they are also committed to inspiring singing in schools, hospitals, and communities through their education programs. They believe that everyone should have access to high-quality musical experiences regardless of age or background.
Their education programs include workshops for schoolchildren led by professional singers from Ex Cathedra; singing sessions for patients in hospitals; community choirs open to all; and training courses for aspiring conductors.
Ex Cathedra has won numerous awards throughout its history including Gramophone Awards (the classical music industryβs equivalent of an Oscar) for Best Early Music Recording (2003), Best Choral Recording (2009), and Best Baroque Vocal Recording (2014).
In conclusion, Ex Cathedra is a world-class choral music ensemble that offers spine-tingling performances of the best, the unfamiliar, and the unexpected choral music. Their commitment to excellence in performance is matched by their dedication to inspiring singing in schools, hospitals, and communities. With over 50 years of experience and a reputation for innovation and quality, Ex Cathedra is truly one of Europe's most respected choirs.
